Introduction to Students

Students are from FJU senior high who majored in Commercial design department.

They are now grade 10.  School offers the relative curriculums for preoccupation training.  These relative curriculums include Mass Media, Advanced Computer, Classical Music vs. Pop Music, Applied Art, Commercial design, Introduction to Modern Painting and etc.  Through these courses, students will exert their creativity and imagination and learn the popular culture as well as communication skill.  Introduction to Modern Paintings: Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism offers students a potential to combine modern paintings with the state-of-the-art technology.  Through the seven different workstations, students inspire their sensitivity to mix old cultures and newer ones.  Meanwhile, students also learn how to work with the high-tech, such as computer skill, online skills, and project DVD etc.  This training will make students more competitive in the commercial design market.

DIY Workstation

¡XYou¡¦re editors!

 

 

Target: Grade 10 students enrolled in the course of Introduction to Modern Paintings: Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism.

 

Outcome:

Through the reading the selected sections from books about artistic movements, brochures of exhibitions at museums, and albums of paintings of different painters, students can not only know the background of these artistic movements, museums, and painters, but also learn how to appreciate general paintings as well as representative paintings of certain period.  Students will innovate out their own brochures on the course after the reading.

Process:

1.  Students will read through the instructions and see the sample brochure in Microsoft PowerPoint.

2. Students will read the relevant brochures, books and albums and take notes.

3. Students will discuss the topic of their own brochure and decide the content of the brochure.

4. Students will use their own words to introduce the artistic movements and describe the paintings that will be used in their brochure. 

5. Students will choose the paintings that they would like to use in their brochure and scan them from the sample brochures and albums. 

6. Students will dispose the words and pictures of the brochure in the computer.

7. Students will present their own brochure in Microsoft PowerPoint software.

 

Product and Evaluation:

1.  Each group will come up a brochure with topics relevant to the course.

2. Each group will present their group brochure to the whole class at next class time.

1.  Take a look of the sample brochure in Microsoft PowerPoint.

2. Discuss the topic and content of your brochure (7~10 pages).  The topic has to be relevant to our course.

3. Read the relevant materials on the table and take notes; you may scan the paintings you need for your brochure.

4. Use your own words to introduce your topic and describe the paintings and present it in Microsoft PowerPoint.

5. Remember to edit, dispose and proof.

One-day Tour to National Palace Museum

 

 

Target: Grade 10 students enrolled in the course of Introduction to Modern Paintings: Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism.

 

Outcome:

Taking this opportunity to visit the exhibition outside the school at the National Palace Museum, students will have a live chance to see the real paintings that they have heard and known or will learn during the class.  Meanwhile, in addition to the painters introduced in the class, students will also see the paintings of other painters of the same period.  They can make a contrast and comparison among the paintings.  After the tour, the students will be required to write a journal about this experience. 

 

Medium:

The ¡§100 Years of Modern Painting ¡V From Picasso to the Present¡¨ exhibition at the National Palace Museum.

 

Guidance:

1.   Provide students with a brief introduction on the modern art and paintings.

2.  Provide students with a list of painters with some background belonging to this period.

3.  Provide each group with a worksheet and some questions on certain paintings so that they can think about and discuss with each other of the group. 

 

Process:

1.   Students will assemble at the gate of school and take bus to the National Palace Museum together.  Teacher will give a brief introduction on the modern art and paintings on the way.

2.  After teacher distributes the worksheet, students will discuss with their group members and think about the questions first.

3.  Upon arrive at the museum, students will work in group and go to enjoy the paintings.  Students can choose paintings that they are interested in, but also need to pay close attentions to the paintings designated on the worksheet.

4.  Students will take notes when they see the paintings.

5.  During the lunchtime, students can discuss with their group members about the questions, and they can also discuss with the teacher if they have any questions. 

6.  After the discussion, students will go to see the paintings again to see if they miss important details.

7.  Students will dismiss after they submit the group worksheets.

 

Product and Evaluation:

1.   A group discussion on the compare and contrast among different artistic movements according to the designated paintings.

Outcome:  Through the test, Students will be able to compare and contrast the different styles and characteristics among Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism.

Guidance:

1.       Show students a film On the Threshold of Art (fifteen minutes in length) which introduces two or three famous masters and their representative works for Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism respectively.

2.      Students will be allowed to ask or discuss with their group members any words or ideas they don¡¦t understand.

3.      Give students a test that is based on the content of the film.

4.      Provide students with correct answers at the end of the class.

5.      Award the winning group with a prize (an album of paintings)

Welcome to Drawing & Presentation Workstation.  In this station, you will have your own painting by using computer and present your painting through ¡§Painting Album¡¨.

Please follow the directions.

1.       Please study carefully the three examples in different modern painting method, Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism respectively.  Please pay attention on light, color, line, and curve.

2.     After studying the three examples, teacher will give a topic for you to paint.

Your painting has to include the painting with recording the classical background music, and the written explanation.
