According to
Acts
6 (使徒行傳:第六章)
of the New Testament (新約聖經),
Stephen was a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit. He
did great wonders and signs among the people. (行了許多神蹟.)
Some disputed with him because they were jealous of his
wisdom and grace from God. He was brought to and judged
before the council. At court, people were offended by
his speech because he accused them of hypocrisy. They
stoned him to death. Stephen is the first of the martyrs
who courageously defend the truth and faith they believe
after Jesus’ death . He is the saint greatly respected
in western civilization. When “Stephen” (or “Steven”) is
mentioned, people think of him with respect as the wise,
the just, and the courageous. Stephen is a decent name
for a decent man. |
