New Energy to Solve Air Pollution Problem

¡@
¡@

When you feel upset or unhappy, taking a deep breath can help you release your stress. However, this method will not function well in Taipei as we find out that the atmosphere is almost unbearable. Why? To find out the answer, the first thing we should know is what air pollution is.

Flooding of scooters on the street and the waste gas exhausting recklessly from the factories chimneys are damage our atmosphere day by day. As pollutions become more and more serious, our atmosphere has already lost part of its function to prevent the entrance of ultra-violet light which causes a great change in our weather and is called greenhouse effect. Since then, temperature is increasing in the rate of 2 degrees Celsius per year causing the deformation of ice at the North and South Pole to raise the sea level. Increase in sea level will increase the heat absorption of the sea so  temperature of the sea will also increase, which will greatly affect the ecosystem in the sea and cause death toll of many marine lives.

So how can we solve the problem? The answer is to find out a proper, price-affordable and renewable new energy such as solar energy, wind energy and geothermal energy. They seem to be workable.

Solar energy can transform radiation from the sun to the energy that we can use. The energy that the sun shines on the earth each second is equivalent to 5 million tons of coal. The power it generates must be sufficient for our use. However, how we can save or completely transform this energy effectively is the most difficult problem that we are facing. Wind is a treasure from the nature; it is the most suitable for renewing energy with infinite resource. However, the expensive cost of building the wind power dynamo and also the loud working sound smashed this dream. The dynamo used for wind power is expensive and requires a large place to install them. Besides, each dynamo can just transform limited amount of energy as its efficiency is still very low. Therefore, wind energy still has a long way to go.

Finally comes to geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is originated from the decaying of the melting magma of the earth and radioactive material.  It is estimated that the heat energy passed to the ground from the earth every year is equivalent to 100 pw per hour. But the problem is that distribution of geothermal energy is comparatively too scattered, which increases the difficulty in generation and utilization.

With the newly found energy, air pollution caused by the non-renewable energy, which is almost 90 percent of the overall air pollution causes can be easily solved. After that, you can walk around in the Taipei City, take a deep breath, and see whether your temper can be better.
