Getting Married is Not a Pleasant Choice for Women

    First of all, some women like to be free. They don’t want to be controlled by men. When women go with guys, they are commanded to obey men. Most men want to be head of the group. They don’t like to take women’s ideas and follow their decision. It sounds embarrassing among his male friends if a husband takes command from his wife. Men think that women have to listen to their advice, but sometimes men cannot really get women’s thought. Their advices are useless to women. If women don’t take their advice, they will get mad. Later an argument will occur. More and more arguments will destroy their love and divorce is the end of this marriage.

    The second is that some women are afraid of responsibility. In Asian countries, we often see marriage a matter of two families rather than the two people who get married.  It means when a marriage beings, responsibility also starts mainly on the shoulder of women. Wives need to take good care of each other’s family such as taking the old parents-in-law to hospitals or nursing them when they are sick.     When they have a child, women need to plan for the child’s life. It is a huge responsibility to raise children. Mothers are a role model of their children. However, in these days, many couples are divorced and children become the most innocent victims because of these heavy duties.

    The third is the arguments with in-laws. A traditional Taiwanese thinks that marriage is about union of two families. If a woman’s family doesn’t like the man’s job, his personality, or his family, it will be very regretful that the couple will be bombarded with complaints and cursing after the two get married. To prevent this unpleasant relationship because of marriage, many women choose not to marry since they fear marriage will make their life a hell.   

    The fourth reason is important since it is about money. If the man whom she wants to marry cannot earn enough money to support his family, it will be very hard to keep this marriage intact because money may become the topic of every-night quarrels. Most parents want their daughters to find rich men to marry because they believe the Chinese proverb that the poor and lowly couple accomplishes nothing. One other reason is that bring up children also costs a lot of money. Nutrition and education are affordable to those who are either rich or hard working. Money is thus a big priority to be settled before getting married. 

    The fifth reason is homosexuality. In Taiwan, homosexual marriage in not permitted by law. In the society, many people treat homosexuals with serious discrimination. Many homosexuals are afraid of telling their family the truth. Some families even think it is a shame. Many women are afraid that their spouses are homosexuals but having no idea at all before betting married. By the time they are informed of this problem, it is too late. They are either developing diseases or becoming gossip of friends and relatives. In order not to make this mistake, they decide not to marry.

    The last reason that women choose not to marry is education. Modern women are better educated and more knowledgeable than their female ancestors. They can not tolerate men who know very few things or they don’t have common topics to talk. They distaste boring and dull lifestyle since they are interested in many things. Besides, men who know little also have greater tendency to seek violence when problems approach. Family violence is such unpleasant feeling that women decide to remain single.

    Due to these reasons, many women are not married. No matter what kind of decision you make, be sure that you live better than now. However, there is a worry that men in Taiwan can not find their wives if most of the women want to be single. As a result, they have to marry those women from oversea. Foreign marriage has become a social problem. If the government wants to solve the problem, it should at least persuade women in Taiwan to get married.
