A: Hey! You know what?

¡@
¡@

B: Mmmn¡K what¡¦s the news? Is something happening?

¡@
¡@

A: Absolutely right. American former president Bill Clinton is coming Taiwan. And
he¡¦ll deliver a speech on cross- strait situation.

¡@
¡@

B: Really?

¡@
¡@

C: Definitely. We will participate in the conference in Taipei International
Convention Meeting named Global Stability and Prosperity in the 21st century.

¡@
¡@

C: It¡¦s unprecedented

¡@
¡@

D: It¡¦s unbelievable.

¡@
¡@

C: And it¡¦s full of people.

¡@
¡@

B: What is his main idea about the situation between Taiwan and Mainland
    China?

¡@
¡@

A: He posts three main points.

¡@
¡@

C: First, to begin with, he wants to make peach a priority, claiming that all
    nations live with each other.

¡@
¡@

D: ¡§The 21st century, I believe can best be summed up in a work
interdependence¡¨, he said, ¡§Interdependence can be good or bad. It simply
means we cannot separate from each other,¡¨ He told an audience of
thousands jam- packing in the auditorium.

¡@
¡@

B: I think it is self- evident, and what else does he imply?

¡@
¡@

A: What he says means we should co- exist for prosperity rather than hatred
toward each other. Hey, come on! You should know that.

¡@
¡@

D: Well, you know. After all, hostility not sensible for sophisticated citizens to do
    that.

¡@
¡@

C: ¡§Whenever two nations encounter plight, we should unanimously join to
surmount or go through it,¡¨ he saids.

¡@
¡@

B: Hmmn, we think we will be in the future.

¡@
¡@

D: Besides, Clinton asserts economic ties which can also increase peace. As we
could see, cross- straight flights strengthen relations during Chinese New
Year. Clinton said that the cross- strait charter flights is a positive move that
is conductive to enhance symbiosis and co- pros- perity of global economies.

¡@
¡@

B: I KNOW I TRAVEL TO Mainland China for visiting forbidden cities and Chengdu,
    Beiling¡K

¡@
¡@

A: It will definitely relieve the tension between two countries and further more,
economic ties believed to be epoch- making that all Chinese people intergrate
and put all the differences aside for cross- strait peace.

¡@
¡@

B: Has he said something unpleasant to us?

¡@
¡@

C: I think it is that ¡§Clinton argues one China policy.¡¨

¡@
¡@

D: Oh! Oh! It seems that you are Democratic Progressive Party, aren¡¦t you?

¡@
¡@

C: No, no! Actually, I¡¦m People First Party.

¡@
¡@

A: I am Taiwan Solidarity Party.

¡@
¡@

B: Stop. It is not suitable for us to discuss policy in school.

¡@
¡@

C: Ok! Let¡¦s resume, He is convinced that situation will improve without military
force and he also points out ¡§United we stand, divided we fall¡¨. In the ling run,
he concludes we will not abandon the feeling of brotherhood.

¡@
¡@

B: It goes with out saying that he is welcomed by Taiwanese people.

¡@
¡@

C: And it¡¦s all that we meet today.

¡@
¡@

A: He praised President Chen Shui- bian for courage in meeting the opposition
party- People First Party Chairman James Soong, saying the meeting has
promoted reconciliation between ruling and opposition parties and made the
Taiwan people stronger and more confident.

¡@
¡@

D: Clinton made the remarks while meeting with Chen at a dinner party held in
his honor after he delivered a speech on global stability and prosperity in the
21st century at the Taipei International Convention Center in the evening.

¡@
¡@

C: Clinton also sets himself for example. He met with U.S. President George H.W.
Bush, his former political adversary. The two former presidents are now
serving together as U.N. envoys for tsunami reconstruction in South and
    Southeast Asia.

¡@
¡@

D: Touching on the various similarity between himself and Clinton regarding the
background of their political careers, Chen said that both he and Clinton are
followers of the ¡§middle way doctrine.¡¨

¡@
¡@

B: Mmm¡K and I watched TV, Clinton receives a gift of a saxophone from Chen
Shui- bien. The present was engraved with saying of activist Martin Luther
King in tiny letters: ¡§Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksand of
racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.¡¨

¡@
¡@

C: Let me summarize this. Clinton, U.S. former president has a great influence on
us. It¡¦s his whirl wind visit for us and finally, he urges Taiwan and Mainland
China to respect each other. This is his main philosophy.
