Ways to Quit Smoking

I. Introduction Paragraph.
   
A. Natural treatment
        
1. cutting down frequency of smoking
   
B. Chemical treatment
        
1. the most effective t alleviate physical addiction
         2. nicotine patches and gums 
         3. discuss with doctor before using due to side-effects


Thesis Statement:
Quitting smoking is thus not an impossible mission although some of them do have disadvantages or side-effects which deserve patientsˇ¦ attention.

II. Nicotine Patches to be one of the chemical treatments

    A.  What is Nicotine Patches?
        
1. king of the game
         2. small, self-adhesive stick to your skin
         3. blood stream at steady rate
         4. doses taken to raise and/or lower nicotine level  
         5. different strengths
   
B.  Advantages
        
1. provide steady supply of nicotine
         2. work in any situation
         3. deterrent
   
C.  Disadvantages
        
1. suffer symptoms of overdoes - death
         2. irritate skin
         3. weird dreams
         4. rough in the morning without it during sleep
         5. taboo smoking at the same time wearing a patch not to remove it

II.  Nicotine Gums to be one of the chemical treatments

     A. What is it?
        
1. another source to provide you with nicotine
        
2. a gum for you to chew
         3. in different strengths (4 or 2 mg per piece) based on how much you smoke
         4. nicotine replacement therapy
         5. deal with physical addiction over a long period of which
         6. with less withdrawal symptoms
   
B. Advantages
        
1. take it anytime you need it but not exceed the suggested amount
         2. cut down nicotine quickly or slowly as you want
         3. inexpensive
         4. provide oral gratification to replace cigarettes   
   
C. Disadvantages
        
1. not to chew it with soda or alcoholic beverage
         2. no good at bar
         3. feel sick if chew too much or too fast
         4. takes longer time if to be effective
         5. become irritable while waiting to affect you

III.  Cutting down to be the natural treatments  
    A. An alternative if not having much confidence on chemical treatment
        
1. alleviate only psychological addiction- powerful and painful to get rid of
        
2. useful for real life
         3. need plan and resolution
   
B. Life Sign- a beeper and an electronic device
        
1. a plan helps quit smoking  
         2. a pager you carry with you
         3. pressing a button to inform the pager youˇ¦re smoking during the first few
             weeks
         4. several weeks later start to cut down
         5. the beeper beeps to tell you when to smoke
         6. gradually cutting down
         7. gradually breaking psychological addiction by removing cues
         8. replacing by beeping as alarm to condition your desire to smoke
         9. eventually not to feel smoking as beeping sounds

A. Other reasons why difficult to quit
         
1. functioning as normal human being.
          2. feeling like an angry, rabid bear if without nicotine the initial five days of
               craziness.
          3.  not as fit company for other humans (it to fit, smoking is necessary)
     
B.  Some things you can do to make quitting cold turkey difficult as opposed to
             impossible (possible):
         
 1.  begin quitting only on the weekend (or off duty)
         
 2.  sleep and watch TV a lot
         
 3.  avoid frustrating situations 
          
4.  avoid place where people smoking.
          
5.  call people how lousy you feel.
         
 6.  keep non-alcoholic drinks on hand; drinking fluids helps to flush the
              nicotine out of your system faster.
          
7.  chewing gum, chew it.
          
8.  a one cigarette away from failure smoker
