本課程之閱讀文章選材多樣化，包括媒體、大眾文化、廣告、教育和生物科技複製等議題。訓練學生達到以下目的：
(1) 提昇英文閱讀能力，
(2) 培養批判性的閱讀習慣，
(3) 解讀文章然後發表自己的意見。
This reading course intends to teach students the basic skills of critical reading. The readings are mainly selected from the eighth edition of The Contemporary Reader and cover quite a range of topics, including fashion, advertising, television, family life, cloning, education, gender, sports, and race. Students are expected to read closely, think a lot, and say a lot about the assigned essays.
適合修讀對象 Target students
有志改進英文閱讀和用英文思考能力者。 作業說明考試及作業繳交方式：
期中、期末考：（到校）
每週依進度閱讀指定文章並聽取教師講解；
每隔週張貼閱讀心得筆記於課程討論板，並回應兩篇同學的筆記。 評分標準8 Short Critical Comments 20%

2 Exams 60%
