職場英文:溝通語境及策略 (Workplace English: Communication Contexts and Strategies)

This course aims to acquaint students with the communication contexts in the workplace and to equip them with the strategies to complete tasks successfully. The communication contexts include corporate culture, marketing, customer service, and business travel.

Communication is front and center in this course. Students will be asked to participate in activities to have hands-on experience in all the contexts introduced. They should discuss issues relevant to the assigned readings, complete assignments to develop language skills, hold an online meeting to learn how to exchange ideas, and build a website to exhibit learning outcomes. 

Half of the course will be conducted in a physical classroom and the others online asynchronously. Given this nature, self-discipline and time management are essential to achieving positive learning outcomes.

  • Attendance is mandatory. Each unexcused absence constitutes a five-point deduction. Absence should be excused with valid documentation within a week.  

  • The learning analytics for the asynchronous classes will be monitored regularly. Should the completion for each chapter is below 80%, five points will be deducted per section. 

  • Emails should be formatted properly and be grammatically correct. Learn more here.

  • Late assignments will not be accepted. Emails about deadline extensions or make-up assignments will not get a reply. However, if you are in a medical or other kind of emergency, do email us to negotiate reasonable rearrangements.
