This course is a knowledge-based subject with additional tips for communication skills and regular practice on useful expressions in business. As the title suggests, this course has strong focus on cultural differences. The study of this course concerns how professionals from different cultures do things differently while performing a certain business function (which will be discussed as themes of the course) and how people can avoid or solve the intercultural conflict caused by such a difference.

This course aims to explore issues in cross-cultural differences, conflict and resolution in the multicultural business context. Through a case study approach and communicative activities, this course leads students to think critically, solve problems effectively, develop their overall communication skills and eventually enhance their intercultural communicative competence.

作業說明

1.        There will be weekly notice and instructions for assignments.
2.        Students can upload their reports to the course website.
3.        There are weekly on-line to help students review course content and prepare their assignments.
4.        The grades of assignments will be uploaded and announced on the course website. Students can check their grades in two weeks after they submitted their reports.
Students can always make appointments with the teacher or teaching assistants to discuss their course work any time

評分標準

Assignments: 35%
— Weekly report of group discussions
— Presentations or mini-papers
Mid-term exam: 30%
— 1 written test
Final exam: 35%
— 1 written test
— 1 oral presentation on cross-cultural comparison with power point slides
Weekly responses are essential.
— Before mid-term and final exam (separately), every student needs to post at least 14 responses.
— If there are less than 14 responses, one missing response costs 2 points of mid-term or final
exam grade.
