Annotate while you read: An explanation Updated on 2005-11-26

     Taking notes while you read is important in that you may record your valuable feelings and thoughts, observe how your response helps you make sense of the text, and how it shapes your unique interpretation. (Starting with your own response, you may prevent yourself from generating stock interpretations.) In addition, you may monitor your reading strategies and examine what strategy works and what does not. You may also find out that you need to expand the repertoire of your reading strategies.

     We apologize that we do not provide non-member learners with our system's annotation template. We suggest that you download a file in Word format and take notes while you read the essay. The link for download is here:
