Explanation of the Quote

What does "the mourner's bench" refer to? In Christianity, since Adam and Eve's fall, human beings are sinners and are supposed to mourn for our sin. We can only be saved after admitting that we are sinners and accepting Jesus Christ as our saviors. The mourner's bench is, therefore, the area for people who haven't converted themselves to Christianity.
