Compound-Complex Sentence
 

The fight started at school when some eighth-grade girls stole a pencil case filled with makeup that belonged to a new classmate, Amada Marcuson, and she reported them.

這場發生在學校的吵架, 是因為有些國中二年級的女學生, 偷了Amada Marcuson這位新轉學的女學生裝滿化裝品的鉛筆盒, 隨後她向學校報告這件偷竊的事情.

The structure of the sentence contains one main clause, two compound clauses connected with the idea in the main clause by two conjunctions “when” and “that”. At the same time, two complex clauses are also used to describe two features about the pencil case regarding content and its ownership.

So the ability to analyze complicated sentence structure is essential to understand your reading. Sometimes, you need to stop to read slowly and carefully this type of sentences.
